Introduction to Powerboating

The aim of this course is to provide a short practical introduction to boat handling and safety on powerboats being used on all Irish waters. The course last 7 hours, there is no requirement for previous experience. Course content includes:

  • Planing and manoeuvring on the plane
  • Leaving and coming alongside
  • Securing to a mooring
  • Anchoring
  • Man Overboard
  • Rules of the Road
  • Regulations
  • Safety on board

  • Navigation & Pilotage
  • Coastal Knowledge

All practical elements are performed as a crew member on a powerboat. Course material follows the Irish Sailing Associations syllabus.
